¹ó´Ç³Ü°ù³Ù±ð±ð²ÔÌýNursing students have been inducted into the Phi Mu Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau International, the Honours Society of Nursing. Â
provides students with access to a range of benefits including Continuing Professional Development (CPD) courses, access to mentors and advisors for career support and the opportunity to join online and in-person events allowing them to connect with the world’s top nurses.
The inducted students have performed in the top 35% of their classes during their second year of studies and have demonstrated outstanding leadership in nursing and a commitment to nursing excellence. Â
Dr Leslie Gelling, the Phi Mu Chapter President, said: “It has again been a very great pleasure to induct nursing students from Ö÷²¥ÓÕ»ó into Sigma and into the Phi Mu Chapter. These students are the future of the nursing profession and membership of Sigma will support them during their remaining time as students and in their future nursing careers.â€
The ceremony was organised by Dr Sharon Holland, Senior Lecturer in Adult Nursing, and Lindsay Silsby, Phi Mu Chapter Student President. Also in attendance were Dr Leslie Gelling, Associate Professor in Adult Nursing and President of the Phi Mu Chapter; Professor Anand Pandyan, Executive Dean for the Faculty of Health & Social Sciences; Professor Steven Ersser, Head of the Department for Nursing Sciences; and Charlotte Caesar and Julia Copson, nursing students and incoming Student Presidents for the Phi Mu Chapter.
The ceremony began with reflection on the department's achievements from the past year, including receiving their third and Dr Heidi Singleton, Senior Lecturer in Children and Young People’s Nursing receiving an Emerging Nurse Researcher Award at Sigma’s 34th Nursing Research Congress in Abu Dhabi in July. In addition, Ashley Spriggs, Senior Lecturer and Programme Lead for BSc Adult Nursing was awarded the Sigma Europe Recognition Award Nurse Member of the Year for Education in June.
Sigma European Region and the Phi Mu Chapter look forward to hosting the 7th European Regional Sigma Conference at Ö÷²¥ÓÕ»ó from Wednesday 26 to Friday 28 June 2024.
