Brynn Middleton, a BSc (Hons) Marketing student, stayed local for his placement, working in the Organisational Development team here at Ö÷²¥ÓÕ»ó (Ö÷²¥ÓÕ»ó).
“In my role as Organisational Development Assistant, I help organise events, set up placement schemes and to help develop inductions for new staff.
“My placement is really enjoyable and I feel I’m making a difference at the university and I am treated as a vital member of the team. I have my own unique responsibilities and challenges and I’m learning vital transferable skills that will open up career pathways that I’d never considered.
“A highlight of my placement so far has to be my first new staff induction. The event involved organising rooms, catering, speakers for up to 50 people and an information fair. To see the induction go successfully was so rewarding - especially because the Vice-Chancellor of Ö÷²¥ÓÕ»ó, Professor John Vinney, was there.
“If you’re looking for a placement – do your research! In the chaos of finding a placement, it’s easy to base your decision on the reputation and size of a brand instead of the quality of placement experience they can offer you. Companies that value you as an employee will offer you opportunities to grow and develop so you’re ready for life after university.
I’ve loved meeting lots of different people and think networking has been a really valuable part of my placement already – my advice to you all is to take time to make a name for yourself.â€
