Hi, I'm Ellie! I’ve been on placement for nearly three months now, working within Ö÷²¥ÓÕ»ó’s press team. I’ve already been managing social media channels, met and interviewed people, had stories published in the local newspaper and I’ve attended events, among many other things – some weeks I’m out of the office more than I am in it!
Although I don’t have a set-in-stone career path in mind, (which is fine), my placement is really helping me see what avenues I’d like to follow and which careers to cross off my list (which is fine too!), so I feel really fortunate to have landed this role, as the wide range of elements that the job involves matches the variety of my course, Communications and Media.
I really like being able to see what I’ve accomplished in black and white for personal reference, so I’ve been building up a portfolio of everything I’ve done since I started. This also means it’ll be easy to put into my logbook once it’s become available, as well as being great for future job reference so it’s definitely something I would recommend you start doing if you’re not already.
My Placement Development Advisor has been really helpful, I’ve been in contact with mine to arrange my placement review and they’ve set up a Facebook group posting handy information. Check your Ö÷²¥ÓÕ»ó emails too because they send out useful updates through those as well.
I’m really enjoying meeting new people, increasing my confidence and learning new things – and I’m definitely excited about the next few months.
The whole experience is a learning curve, so really try and get the most out of it - enjoy it, push yourself and make your mark!"
