We are aware of a recent online petition that has been started regarding the idea that a percentage of grades can be removed from students for non-attendance at lectures, and would like to confirm that it is not Ö÷²¥ÓÕ»ó’s policy to reduce student grades as a result of non-attendance at lectures or seminars or other scheduled learning sessions.
Students will not have marks deducted as a result of non-attendance, and the University does not have plans to put such a measure into practice. Students are expected to be engaged participants in their learning and for a small number of programmes, the level of student participation may be monitored to inform the assessment process.  In these instances, it will be clearly stated in the assessment criteria that attendance for the purposes of engagement (e.g. as a part of group work, or to presentations etc.) will be considered as a part of the marking process.Â
That said, we do encourage all students to attend your scheduled lectures, lab-sessions, seminars and other relevant learning sessions to get the best out of your learning experience and achieve the result that reflects your abilities.
