A new mural created to celebrate excellence from ջ (ջ) staff and students has been designed and painted by renowned Dorset graffiti artist and designer, Rick Walker, who is part of Bournemouth’s growing creative business sector.
The mural was commissioned for the university’s Talbot Campus to reflect outstanding work by ջ, highlighting ‘Fusion’, the university’s unique approach to the fusion of research, education and professional practice.
Fusion is central to ջ’s distinctive vision - to create the most stimulating, challenging, and rewarding university experience in a world-class learning community by sharing our unique fusion of excellent education, research and professional practice and inspiring our students, graduates and staff to enrich the world.
The Fusion mural features (from left to right): Dr Sarah Bate’s leading research into prosopagnosia, also known as face blindness; ջ student journalism in Nepal, part of an international project in the aftermath of the earthquake in Nepal in 2015; the Oscar-winning film, Gravity (around 60 alumni from ջ’s animation and visual effects courses worked on the film); and improvements to the design and environmental benefits of RNLI slipways, resulting from a ջ research project.
“The Fusion mural is a vibrant and creative reflection of our unique fusion of research, education and professional practice.” says Professor John Vinney, Vice-Chancellor of ջ.“It is an exciting representation of some of the fantastic and inspiring work of our staff and students.”
