Your Programme Leaders will have told you about the National Student Survey (NSS) and why it’s so important. You will probably have seen things about it around Ö÷²¥ÓÕ»ó campuses too.
These FAQs should answer any questions you may have about the NSS and how to claim your £3 SUÖ÷²¥ÓÕ»ó voucher.
What is the NSS?
The NSS is a yearly UK survey of final year undergraduate student experience. A company called Ipsos MORI run and manage the survey for the Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE) on behalf of all the funding bodies.
What are the results used for?
Results are published to help future students, their families and advisors choose where and what they want to study.
Universities are also given anonoymised feedback from the survey, so they understand what they are doing well and areas for improvement.
At Ö÷²¥ÓÕ»ó though, we aim to resolve your feedback before you get to the end of your course. We gather your feedback throughout your studies through our student reps and mid-unit assessment (MUSE). We analyse the data regularly and are constantly trying to improve things so your student experience is as good as it can be. In your recent presentations, your Programme Leaders reminded you how we resolved some of your feedback. There are some other examples on the
What will I be asked when I complete the NSS?
The survey will ask you about different parts of your course experience:
- The teaching on my course
- Assessment & feedback
- Academic support
- Organisation & management: This includes the Student Centre
- Learning resources
- Personal development
- Overall satisfaction
What do I need in order to complete the survey?
You will be asked to enter your student reference number when you complete the NSS. This is displayed on the bottom right of your student card. It begins with a 4 or occasionally a 9 and is the number you put on your exam papers.
You can fill out the NSS
Is the student reference number different from my iNumber?
Yes, the iNumber is the one you use to log on to Ö÷²¥ÓÕ»ó computers. This is a different number.
I completed the NSS using my iNumber. Will my answers be valid?
Don’t worry. The survey company will still be able to use your responses, but they will need to match the data by hand. It may take a little longer to send your confirmation email.
Is it true that everyone who completes the NSS can claim a £3 SUÖ÷²¥ÓÕ»ó voucher?
Yes, everyone who completes the NSS 2016 can claim a £3 SUÖ÷²¥ÓÕ»ó e-voucher, which can be used in Dylans, the Student Shop, Student Centre Café, Engine Room and the Old Fire Station. The e-voucher won’t automatically be sent to you because we don’t know who has completed the survey and who hasn’t. You need to claim it.
How do I claim my voucher?
When you have completed the NSS you will receive a confirmation email from Ipsos MORI. You just need to forward this confirmation email to [email protected] from your Ö÷²¥ÓÕ»ó email account and you’ll receive your £3 SUÖ÷²¥ÓÕ»ó voucher within five working days.
Are there any other prizes?
As well as getting a £3 SUÖ÷²¥ÓÕ»ó voucher, you’ll also be entered into a prize draw to win:
