sportÖ÷²¥ÓÕ»ó joined forces with Bournemouth Heath Ultimate Frisbee Club to host the 2015 annual Sunburn Ultimate Frisbee Tournament last weekend.
28 teams from around the country convened on Sandbanks Beach for two days of Ultimate Frisbee competition, each looking for the chance to lift the Sunburn Championship trophy. Though the sun was shining high winds on Saturday added an additional challenge for the players competing in the pool groups. Despite the tough conditions, the level of play was fantastic and a high level of sportsmanship was shown throughout the first day.
Much calmer conditions welcomed the teams on Sunday morning as they looked to end their pool play on a high. Sunday afternoon saw teams battling for places in the finals, increasing the intensity and speed of play. The final on Sunday evening saw Southampton take on boHunks on the show court, with Southampton taking the title.
Andrew Moss was one of the tournament organisers, he said, "Bournemouth and Poole has become associated with quality beach Ultimate [Frisbee], hosting the biggest beach tournaments in the UK. The team have worked hard to make this year's tournament is the best yet, and the weekend managed to showcase the sport with a combination of quality competition and lively atmosphere."
Phil Smith from sportÖ÷²¥ÓÕ»ó commented on the success of the tournament, “It was a great weekend at Sandbanks and the weather was amazing. The standard of play was very high and both the players and spectators really enjoyed the event.â€
Phil went on to say, “It's fantastic for sportÖ÷²¥ÓÕ»ó to be involved in events like this and we thoroughly enjoyed seeing all the players performing in the sport they love in Bournemouth.â€
